archer had an appointment with the audiologist today. and i couldn't be happier with the results.

this time they tested both ears.

its obvious to us all, that archer has pretty great hearing from his left ear. we know that, because, he never stops talking. and he speaks pretty well, for any four-year-old.

i have finally found out that he has hearing in his little ear too! he has severe hearing loss, but he does hear. this means that he will likely be able to have surgery in the next few years to open his ear canal. :)

its nice to finally have some answers.

but at the same time, i go back and forth on what's actually the right thing to do. who am i to physically change him. he was born this way, and i think he's beautiful. but i also want him to be able to use what he was given.

anyhow, there is time to decide.

Artist Friends

i'm always going back and forth on what i want to do when i grow up. the problem is, though, i am grown up.  and i always end up wanting to do something that has to do with food. but i was really hoping my serving days were over.
i'd love to do some catering or something, but i need to test my waters...  i need an event! a small and informal one. anyone interested in doing some kind of rented space, for a collaboration of art event? bring your art to sell, gift, or raise funds for whatever reason..  just throwing it out there. i see a lot of you are pretty artistic. could be fun?

dead plants

while cleaning up the house this morning, i set a plant on the kitchen counter. it had seen better days. poor plant was dry and brittle, no life left in it.

i continued with my cleaning, and forgot about the plant.

archer was hungry and went looking for a snack when he noticed the poor sad plant. "oh no. i'll feed it some water." his little robot cup in hand, poured in his own water to help save the plant. he stood back, and looked up at the plant just above his eye level. he waited. nothing. "oh, this plants needs A LOT more water. i'll get it some more," and hurried over to the faucet.

my little boy is so sweet. and i love that he's very aware of his surroundings. :)

he made my day.

say something

this song came on in the car tonight.

a small and depressed voice from the back seat stated, "mom... that's a sad song.."

i was really impressed with the fact that my 3 year old interpreted this song as sad.  i mean, i already knew kids were very sensitive to emotions, and can pick up pretty well on their surroundings, but some adults even have trouble really listening to lyrics of songs. myself included.

on a side note, i almost didn't recognize christina aguilera. i like her in this. she sounds delicate; much different than her usual powerhouse voice.

happy monday.

we love foooood

despite the panic attack in the grocery store, tonight we had a pretty tasty dinner.

simple, was the menu.

archer and i started with dried turkish apricots. kind of a lot of sugar, but lots of fiber and protein in those little things. more of just a snack to hold him over, and get him out of the kitchen.

then we moved on to the salad.  hard egg, tomato, almonds, and dried pomegranate seeds over a bed of spinach. archer was pretending to be pop-eye, and to my surprise, i didn't even have to use the fast-growing muscle gimmick to get him to eat it. i love the leaves mom. dang it, i forgot the avocado.

for dessert, i cut the tops off of some strawberries, and whipped my own cream (with a bit of honey for hearty sweetness.) twelve strawberries disappeared in less than a minute.

i was very impressed with archer tonight. i'm really proud of that little guy; i know he's going to grow up to be a very healthy and conscious person. michael, on the other hand, had a second dessert of buffalo chicken bites followed by 2 chocolate ice cream sandwiches. when will he learn? ;)

archer's food adventure

my child impresses me everyday.

mike and i took him to a sushi place for dinner last night.  he ate pickled cucumber, cucumber and avocado rolls, and tempura eggplant, zucchini, mushroom, and sweet potato. he even used chopsticks.  i was so amazed at how much food he happily devoured.

he has such sophisticated taste.

what kind of food do your kids eat?

he even tried on a tiny suit jacket at Nordstrom on his own will.
